Diagnosis 
CommentConservation: IUCN: Endangered C2a (1996), as Chelonoidis nigra

porteri; CITES: Appendix I, as Chelonoidis nigra.

Similar species: a population of what used to be called C. porteri has been described as Chelonoidis donfaustoi POULAKAKIS et al. 2015.

Taxonomy: This is a member of the Chelonoidis nigra species complex, variably considered subspecies of C. nigra or as valid species. Rhodin et al. (2010) and the TTWG 2012 listed them separately but under the heading “C. nigra species complex”.
