CommentMabuya spinalis has been considered as a synonym of Mabuya stangeri (Gray 1845). JOGER 1993 reassigned species status to M. spinalis. 
EtymologyNamed after Latin spinalis, anything related to the spine or backbone; also, thorny, spiny. ["... Nuchal and dorsal scales strongly tricarinate…"].
