DiagnosisDiagnosis: This is the only Chironius species wilh 10 scale rows at midbody and a divided anal plate. 
CommentRelative abundance in Honduras: infrequent

Distribution: this species has been reported from Peru, but without specific locality (T. Doan, pers. comm. 30 Apr 2012). Map in DIXON et al. 1993: 129.

Synonymy: mostly after DIXON et al. 1993: 127.

Habitat: partly arboreal (Harrington et al. 2018). 
EtymologyNamed after Latin grandis (= large, great), squama (= scale), and -is (with, having, nature of), in reference to the unusually large dorsal scales of this snake.
