DistributionMexico (at low elevations in C Veracruz, N Oaxaca, Chiapas, Yucatan, Campeche, Quintana Roo, Tabasco),
N Guatemala, Belize

Type locality: "Tabasco, Mexico".  
TypesHolotype: USNM 6518; according to Iverson (1986:132), parts of the same specimen originally were catalogued as both USNM 6518 and 6525 (after KING & BURKE 1989). 
CommentDoes not occur on the Yucatan Peninsula fide KING & BURKE 1989.

Type species: Claudius angustatus COPE 1865 is the type species of the genus Claudius COPE 1865.
