CommentSimilar species: Clelia equatoriana is often confounded with Clelia clelia. However, Clelia equatoriana has dorsal scale in 17 rows at midbody vs 19 in Clelia clelia (Peters & Orejas-Miranda 1970).

Distribution: scattered records only in Costa Rica and Panama.

Type species: Barbourina equatoriana AMARAL 1924: 201 is the type species of the genus Barbourina AMARAL 1924, now a synonym of Clelia. 
EtymologyNamed after Latin equatoriana, femenine demonym of the inhabitants of Ecuador. [“...sent from Guayaquil, Ecuador...”]. (from Esteban Lavilla, pers. comm., May 2024)
