CommentCnemaspis jerdonii scalpensis (FERGUSON 1877) has been elevated to full species status by MENDIS WICKRAMASINGHE & MUNINDRADASA 2007.

According to the type description Gymnodactylus jerdonii Theobald 1868 possesses following characters: “Back uniformly granular. Down either side a row of distant erect spines, becoming obsolete on the tail. Tail with a single row of subcaudal plates, with a few large scales along their edges. Colour greenish grey mottled with brown. Below greenish white. Femoral pores 8 on each thigh, large, cup-shaped, bordered in front by largish scales, and behind by the granular scales of the back.” (cited from MENDIS WICKRAMASINGHE & MUNINDRADASA 2007). 
EtymologyNamed after Thomas Claverhill Jerdon (1811-1872), British physician, zoologist, and botanist who became an Assistant Surgeon in the East India Company.
