CommentType species: Colobodactylus taunayi AMARAL 1933 is the type species of the genus Colobodactylus AMARAL 1933. 
EtymologyNamed after Afonso d'Escragnolle Taunay (1876-1958), the son of a Brazilian viscount when Brazil was still a monarchy.

The genus was named after Greek kolobos (κολοβός), docked, clipped, curtailed, shortened, incomplete, truncated + Greek dactylos = finger.
