EtymologyProbably named after Greek alloios = different, of another kind, probably referring to it’s “pleasant uniformity of pattern” which is different from rugosus and weinlandi. Schwartz 1964 does not explain it though. Schools & Hedges 2024 speculate that the name likely alludes to the prominent longitudinal paramedian lines of this species distinguishing this taxon from its close relatives.
