Distribution | Haiti, from Gonaïves and Ennery southeast along Golfe de la Gonâve to Plaine de Cul de Sac, thence east into Llanos de Azua and Barahona, República Dominicana; Île à Cabrit. Type locality: “Gonave Island”. rugosus (invalid): northern Haiti into northwestern República Dominicana, thence throughout much of the eastern portion of that country; Cayos Siete Hermanos. |

Comment | Similar species: Comptus stenurus and C. weinlandi cannot be distinguished based on morphological characters; however, both of these species are morphologically distinct from their closest relatives (C. arboreus and C. alloeides, respectively). (Schools & Hedges 2024) |
Etymology | Named after David Friedrich Weinland (1829-1915), German zoologist, who found and donated the types to the MCZ. |
