Comment | Cricosaura typica is the only cricosaurine representative. It differs from the other xantusiids in possessing two frontonasal scales, one frontal scale, no parietal scale, and a fourth finger with four phalanges. Habitat: rocks and decomposing plants. Type species: Cricosaura typica GUNDLACH & PETERS, in PETERS 1863: 262 is the type species of the genus Cricosaura GUNDLACH & PETERS 1863. Etymology | Named after the Latin adjective typicus, supposedly referring to the species' morphology which was apparently considered as being typical for Cricosaura, the only species of the genus described by Gundlach and Peters and the only species ever known for the genus. |
