TypesHolotype: QM J87812 (previously NTM R23438), adult male, (Tissue sample No. ABTC CK5), coll. P. and R. Horner, 20 January 1998. On Eucalyptus trunk, 0830 hours. 
DiagnosisDiagnosis: A medium sized (40–44 mm SVL), shortlegged, shallow-headed, arboreal Cryptoblepharus, distinguished from Australian congeners by combination of modal values of five supraciliary scales, 24 mid-body scale rows, 48 paravertebral scales, 10 plantar scales, 16 fourth finger subdigital lamellae and 19 fourth toe subdigital lamellae; mean values of 34.4 mm snout-vent length, head length 20.7% of snout-vent length, head depth 40.3% of head length, body length 50.6% of snout-vent length, forelimb length 33.8% of snout-vent length; strongly keeled subdigital lamellae; pale, acute plantar scales, and usually 3+3 posttemporal scales. 
CommentSympatry. Cryptoblepharus pannosus occurs in sympatry with C. australis and C. metallicus and C. adamsi, C. l. litoralis, C. ochrus, C. pulcher and C. tytthos. 
EtymologyFrom the Latin adjective pannosus, meaning ragged or tattered; in reference to the usually irregular borders of this taxon’s pale dorsolateral stripes.
