| Diagnosis | Diagnosis. Similar in most respects to C. maculatus, but males differ in lacking a distinct throat chevron and in having a weak or almost absent chest patch. They are generally distinguishable by smaller, more widely separated black lateral spots, less prominent dorsolateral stripes, and in many populations yellow flecks and narrow lines randomly decorating the sides of the neck and rear of the head (Figs. 4A–C, 5C–D, S8I–J, S9B, C, L).
