CommentSynonymy: WALLACH et al. 2014: 201 listed this species as synonym of Cubophis cantherigerus. 
EtymologyNamed after Dr. William A. Brooks, President of the Swan Island Commerical Company who aided Mr. Nelson throughout his trip.

Etymology (genus): The generic name refers to its distribution, centered on Cuba and nearby islands.
