Comment	Conservation: Cuora picturata may be nearing extinction because it probably has a relatively small geographic range (given that it has never been encountered in the wild by scientists) and it, like other members of the genus Cuora, is in high commercial demand. Until 2006 it was only known from markets in southern Vietnam. Distribution: see map in TTWG 2025.
Etymology	Named after Latin pictus (picta, pictum) = ornate, colorful, gracile, painted, for the pattern in this species.
