CommentDiagnosis. Cyrtodactylus eisenmani sp. nov. differs from all congeners in the following combination of the characteristics: SVL of 76.8–89.2 mm; head with band on occiput; 15–18 scales across narrowest point of frontal bone; 15–18 scales between eye and nostril; body slender, limbs and digits long and slender; original tail very long (TL/SVL = 1.28); dorsal pattern with four narrow white bands on chocolate-brown background, one other band on tail; 14 irregular longitudinal rows of weakly keeled tubercles at midbody between ventrolateral folds; 19–22 paravertebral tubercles; precloacal groove and pores absent; 4–6 enlarged femoral scales beneath each thigh; 44–45 ventral scales between ventrolateral folds at midbody; 22–25 subdigital lamellae on first toe; 17–18 subdigital lamellae on fourth toe; enlarged scales on heel; subcaudal scales enlarged to form broad transverse plates.
EtymologyThe specific epithet is derived from the name of Dr. Stephanie Eisenman, Director of World Wildlife of Fund in the United States of America, who has greatly contributed to wildlife conservation around the world. Some local people call this animal “Than lan hang đá” which means gecko from a rocky cave. Because Dr. Eisenman is a woman the name has been emended to eisenmanae according to ICZN rules.
