Reproduction | oviparous |
Types | Holotype: NMNHU (formerly ZIK = Institute of Zoology, Academy of Sciences, Kiev, SR) 3046:20251. |
Diagnosis | Diagnosis: -Large geckos, largest snout-vent length (SVL) 58.1 mm; 14-17 interorbital scales; 27-28 large, trihedral tubercles in paravertebral row, not in contact with each other; 27-30 rows of scales across mid-abdomen; 120-138 scales along midventral line of body, between submentals and anterior border of vent; preanal pores 8-10, femoral pores 11-15 unilaterally, 30-40 preanofemoral pores in a series. (Khan 1991) Coloration: -Body light gray in life, no effect of preservative (10% Formalin), with fine light brown granulation all over; brownish spottings on dorsum of head and supralabials. Some transverse rows of dorsal body tubercles white, alternating with rows of darker tubercles. In young specimens six to seven indistinct, transverse bands from neck to vent; head with dark spots, a light band through eye to temple. In other subadults the transverse bands divided into five longitudinal rows of roundish spots. Legs and fingers barred. Tail with alternating light (12) and dark (13) cross bars.. (Khan 1991) Measurements (in mm).-Total length 129.3; SVL 58.1; tail 71.2 (regenerated); head length (tip of snout to anterior border of ear opening) 15.4; head breadth (at the level of ear opening) 12.15; snout length (from anterior border of eye to the tip of snout) 7.0; diameter of eye 4.1; greatest vertical diameter of ear opening 2.3; length of oculo-orbital space 4.8; length of a tubercle from the middle of middorsal row 1.65.. (Khan 1991) Variation: -Males vary in SVL from 34 to 58 mm, gravid females 38-56 mm; tail length in both sexes varies from 64-80 mm (unregenerated); number of longitudinal rows of dorsal tubercles at midbody 13-14; number of subdigital lamellae under fourth finger 20-23, rarely 19, under fourth toe 23-25. Usually three postmentals, third very small (holotype has two). Preanal pores 6-10, femoral pores 11-15. Subadults of SVL 28-40 mm have dorsal barred and spotted pattern, lost in geckos of SVL 45 mm. Mental scale in the holotype and majority much larger than broad, triangular, extending deep between first pair of submentals, which are narrowly in contact with each other, however in a few specimens the mental scale is short and the first pair of submentals are broadly in contact with each other..
