Type locality: “Port Darwin”  
Reproductionoviparous (not imputed, fide Zimin et al. 2022) 
TypesHolotype: QM J14/1994 (now: QM J2017, Kluge 1967) 
DiagnosisDiagnosis: A moderate-sized member of the D. conspicillatus group (max SVL 52 mm) with a bold canthal stripe and greatly enlarged first supralabial (contacting ventral edge of nasal scale). Mid-dorsal scales on trunk small and only slightly larger than dorsolateral scales. Original tail spade-like and lacking an acute attenuated extension at tip. Scales on dorsal surface of original tail all large and not arranged in clearly defined transverse rows (pine cone-like appearance) [OLIVER et al. 2014: 26]. 
CommentSynonymy: Diplodactylus hillii was considered as a synonym of Diplodactylus conspicillatus by KLUGE 1963 and others.

Diet: termites, ants 
EtymologyNamed after Gerald Freer Hili (1880-1954), Australian zoologist who collected the types but otherwise specialized on termites, i.e. the diet of this gecko.
