szechwanensis: China (Sichuan, Guizhou, Guangxi, Hunan, Yunnan). Type locality: Peng Hsien (= Peng Xien) and Tianquan Xien (= Tien Tsuan Hsien), Sichuan (= Szechwan), China.

Type locality: apparently not known. The type specimen was included in a collection purchased by the Senckenberg Museum from H. Fruhstorfer as of Tonkin (N Vietnam) without detailed type locality [BOETTGER 1904].

DiagnosisDiagnosis: Diploderma fasciatum can be differentiated from congeners by a combination of the following characters: (1) body size medium to large, SVL up to 89.9 mm in adults; (2) tail length moderate, TAL 170.2–201.8% SVL in males, 172.2–196.6% in females; (3) forelimb length moderate, FLL 38.5–50.6% SVL; (4) hindlimb relatively short, HLL 55.9– 71.6% SVL; (5) nuchal crests much differentiated from dorsal, large, triangular in shape, CL 7.2–14.0% HL; (6) enlarged scales of dorsum highly differentiated from background scales, conical or sub-pyramidal, each bearing single, distinct medial keel; (7) post-temporal, post-tympanic, and post-rictal conical scales numerous and strongly developed; (8) tympa- num concealed; (9) ventral head scales heterogeneous in size, with enlarged gular scales scattered posteriorly and ventro- laterally; (10) F4S 18–25, T4S 21–29; (11) MD 34–49; (12) NSL mostly 0, rarely 1; (13) suborbital scale rows 3, middle row much enlarged; (14) gular pouch moderately developed in life, absent after preservation; (15) dorsolateral stripes absent in both sexes; (16) single hourglass-shaped, Light Greenish Yellow (Color 87) to Chartreuse (Color 89) transverse pattern present on dorsal midbody in both sexes, more profound in males; (17) distinct gular spots absent in both sexes; and (18) tongue and oral cavity Light Sulphur Yellow (Color 93) to Light Chrome Orange (Color 76), with dark gray speckles present towards the posterior lateral sides of oral cavity.
