Type locality: “India orientali”, erroneously restricted to “Malayische Halbinsel” by HENNIG (1936), later corrected to “Java” (MANTHEY 2008: 8-9).

DiagnosisDiagnosis: Species of moderate to large size (maximum snout-vent length 117 m m ); nostril directed outward or slightly upward; series of enlarged, keeled scales forming a A-shaped figure on the snout; median teeth in the upper jaw usually two; supralabials 8-13, with several indistinct keels; a low thornlike scale on the supraciliary edge; tympanum usually covered with smooth skin; gular pouch without, lateral pouches with enlarged scales; both sexes with a nuchal crest, in males on top of a nuchal fold; dorsals 155-256, smooth, unequal; usual- ly five ribs in patagium; hindlimbs about as long as the distance between the limbs; males with a caudal crest (Musters 1983: 23). 
CommentSynonymy: mostly after Musters 1983. D. abbreviatus is now mostly considered as a valid species (previously a synonym of D. fimbriatus). Inger (1983) considered Draco punctatus as a synonym of Draco cristatellus but McGuire et al. 2018 revalidated D. punctatus based on DNA sequence data obtained from the holotype.

This is one of the few Draco species in which males and females have similar or identical patagial coloration (i.e. the color of the membranes that covers the elongated ribs).

Distribution: may need correction for the removal of D. punctatus. See also map at IUCN. The range of punctatus is largely overlapping with that of fimbriatus. McGuire et al. 2018 do not show the localities of their samples on a map and they had no samples of fimbriatus from Borneo (on which IUCN shows both species across the whole island).
