Diagnosis | Diagnosis (genus): The genus is characterized by (1) a small size, (2) body cylindrical, slender with keeled dorsal scales in 15 rows without apical pits, (3) head hardly distinct from neck, (4) tail long, (5) ventrals oblique, (6) subcaudals paired, (7) anal shield single, (8) small, equal maxillary teeth, (9) eyes small, pupils round, (10) nostrils large piercing the middle between two nasal, and (11) preocu- lar missing, loreal shield and prefrontal shield touching the eye (Vogel et al. 2018). |
Comment | Synonymy: Elapoidis sumatrana was resurrected from synonymy with E. fusca by Vogel et al. 2018.
Distribution: no confirmed records from Borneo despite reports from there. Not listed in STUEBING & INGER 1999.
Type species: Elapoidis fusca H. BOIE in F. BOIE 1827 is the type species of the genus Elapoidis H. BOIE in F. BOIE 1827.
Two color morphs can be distinguished among specimens of E. fusca from Java. Most specimens are uniformly dark brown to dark gray. Some specimens are dark brown with small yellow spots (Form B according to Boulenger 1893), giving a somehow marbeled look. |
