Diagnosis 
CommentType species: Cistudo blandingii HOLBROOK 1838: 35 is the type species of the genus Emydoidea GRAY 1870.

Habitat: freshwater (swamps, ponds, rivers)

Karyotype: the karyotype is 2n = 50: 20 metacentric or submetacentric, 10 subtelocentric, and 20 acrocentric or telocentric chromosomes (Stock (1972). 
EtymologyNamed after Dr. William Blanding (1772-1857), American naturalist.
