Type locality: Lima, Peru.

TypesHolotype: MHNN Neuchâtel Museum, Switzerland. 
DiagnosisDiagnosis: A small worm snake with lineate pattern, darker on the upper half of the body, and with white spot present on rostral and tail spine. Ocular separated from nasal by supraocular and labial; dorsal scales about 260 [from SCHMIDT & WALKER 1943]. 
CommentGroup: Orejas-Miranda & Zug (1974) included 5 species in the tesselatus group: tesselata, tenellus, rubrolineata, teaguei, tricolor.

Key: Orejas-Miranda & Zug (1974: 173) present a key to the members of the tesselata group.
