Commentbelongs to subgenus Ommateremias.

Synonymy partly after KHALIKOV & ANANJEVA (pers. comm.). Highly variable species (see patterns in CHIRIKOVA & KOLBINZEV 2003).

Type species: Lacerta variabilis PALLAS 1814 is the type species of the genus Eremias WIEGMANN 1834 (fide JEREMCENKO 1999). Szczerbak (1974) considered Eremias velox the type species of genus Eremias. For comments on the types of this species (and Lacerta vittata) see BAUER & GÜNTHER 1995. 
EtymologyEtymology (genus): “Eremias is a Greek noun meaning solitary devotee, and is related to Eremia, signifying an isolated place or desert.” (Arnold et al. 1978; Mozaffari and Parham, 2007).
