DistributionE Iran, SW Afghanistan, W Pakistan

Type locality: “Karman” = Kerman, Iran.
Reproductionoviparous
TypesLectotype: ZMB 9329 (designated by SZCZERBAK 1974)
DiagnosisDiagnosis: Three nasals, lower in contact with 2 or 3 anterior supralabials (Fig. 95); fourth toe with 2 complete rows of subdigital scales, 28-30 in a row, and complete row of sharply pointed lateral scales, i.e., total of 4 scales counted around penultimate phalanx; 21-30 gular scales in straight median series; 2 series of femoral pores separated by space not greater than one-fourth length of each (Anderson 1999: 214).

Color pattern: (Fig. 96) Dorsum with alternating light and dark lines, the dark lines varying from pale tan to chocolate brown, light lines creamy white to buff; adult with 5-8 dark stripes, no light spots within dark stripes; head uniform brown (Anderson 1999: 214).

“Blanford made no mention of a blue tail in life. His description is a composite of 12 specimens. He described the pattern as 6-8 dark brown stripes, each pair uniting or terminating on anterior portion of tail, or occasionally in middle of back. His plate (1876, pI. 25) shows a vertebral stripe (or a pair?) terminating in middle ofback. He stated that specimens from Narmashir and Baluchistan are paler. Boulenger's description indicates more variation, but in addition to the types, he includes specimens from Helmand, the Perso-Baluch frontier, and Kheran. His description of color pattern indicates 9 dark stripes as wide as interspaces, or 11 on nape, 10 on middle of body, 7 on posterior part of body; tail bluish toward the end. I count 7-9 dark stripes in Blanford's specimens in the British Museum, including the faint lateral stripes. CAS 141215 and 141218 from Khorasan and CAS 141100 from Sistan appear to be E. fasciata, but differ from CAS 141067 in having 8- 9 stripes on back and in having yellow, rather than blue tails in life” (Anderson 1999: 214, Fig. 96).
