CommentSynonymy: Amaral (1944, 1948) considered E. deschauenseei to be synonymous with E. notaeus.

Phylogenetics: E. notaeus, beniensis, and deschauenseei are closely related and Rivas et al. 2024 suggested to synonymize them, cofirming data by Tarkhnishvili et al. 2022. 
EtymologyNamed after Rodolphe Meyer de Schauensee, who donated a specimen to the Philadelphia Zoo in 1924. This species is not listed by GASC & RODRIGUES 1980.
