Type locality: Guishan Isle, Toucheng Township, Yilan County, northeast Taiwan.

TypesHolotype: TMRL (also as NTM) 0461 (originally given as TMRL) (National Taiwan Museum), (Figure 4 & 5 in Lin & Yao 2016), adult male; Paratypes: National Taiwan Museum TMRL 0473 and 0474, adult males both on 10 Aug. 1998; TMRL 0441 and 0450, adult females on 27 May 1997 and 10 Nov. 1997, all paratypes are collected at same locality as holotype, by Jun-Tsong Lin. 
DiagnosisDiagnosis: A small species of Gekko, Habitus slightly depressed, Digits long, relatively narrow; nostril in contact with rostral scale; internasal scale between two nasorostral scales and contact with rostral scale; ear opening oblique, oval; postmentals two, enlarged, each side have 2-4 submental scales, 2-3 larynx scales in behind the postmentals and about 2/3-1/3 to postmental; finger and toe webbing weakly developed; Lamella single row, subdigital lamellae on first toe 8-10 (Figure 9); precloacal pores six to eight in males, absent in females (Figure 10); enlarge tubercle lacking on dorsal surfaces of body and limbs (Figure 11 & 12); postcloacal tubercle single and present on both side surface of tail base; SVL 54-64 (mean x = 59.7) in adults, paratype of males are 60 and 64, paratype of females are 64 and 60mm (Table 4); HL 12.80-16.45 (x = 14.65); HW 9.90-12.80 (x = 11.31); SE 5.20-7.80 (x = 6.46); OD 3.25-4.90 (x = 3.88); EE 4.15-5.34 (x = 4.67). Dorsum with six thin, wide dark bands between nape and sacrum; tail with six or more dark bands (Figure 4). Different between G. hokouensis and G. guishanicus (Table 3). 
CommentSimilar species: Gekko hokouensis

Abundance: only known from its original description (Meiri et al. 2017). 
EtymologyNamed after the type locality.
