Type locality: Las Cruces Field Station and Botanical Garden, 4 km south of San Vito de Jaba, Canton Corredores, Puntarenas, Costa Rica, 1200 m elevation.  
TypesHolotype: LACM 130254, adult male, Museum of Natural History of Los Angeles County, collected 14-16 July 1972 by N. J. Scott. 
EtymologyNamed after Dr. Floyd Leslie Downs (b. 1938), American zoologist.
