Type locality: 7.5 km E of Mt. Garnet via Kennedy Hwy (or 7.7 km W of Nettle Creek at Innot Hot Springs via Kennedy Hwy), Northeastern Queensland.

TypesHolotype: QM J42714 (Queensland Museum) (formerly AMS R96235). 
DiagnosisDiagnosis: This is the only species of Sphenomorphus (sensu Greer 1979) with the following combination of characters: 20-22 midbody scale rows, prefrontal and anterior supraocular in contact (i.e., anterior supraciliary and frontal separated by these two scales), two presuboculars, two infralabials in contact with postmental on each side and 66-89 paravertebral scales (Greer 1985). 
CommentMost similar to the partially sympatric G. pumilus.

EtymologyThe species name cracens is Latin for "graceful," "slender."
