Diagnosis | DIAGNOSIS: Differs from bojerii by its larger size (maximum snout-vent length: 70mm.), greater number of lamellae beneath the 4th toe (20-25), greater number of midbody scales (36-42), and by the following differences in body markings: the dorsolateral pale lines are more blue in living individuals (Desjardins, 1831 b) ; the two dorsolateral dark lines are usually thinner and the mid-dorsal dark line is usually less conspicuous. The parietals are also more frequently in contact at their posterior ends. Comment | Conservation: G. b. borbonicus was last reported from Réunion in 1839. The disappearance of these subspecies of Gongylomorphus from such large islands may be attributable to the accidental introduction of the southeast Asian wolf snake, Lycodon aulicus capucinus Linnaeus, 1758 (Jones, 1993). |
Etymology | Named after the type locality, Réunion, formerly known as Bourbon. |
