CommentSynonymy: Gonocephalus doriae abbotti COCHRAN 1922 has been treated as valid species by most recent authors. However, Harvey et al. 2023 suggested to treat it as subspecies of doriae.
EtymologyNamed after Marchese Giacomo Doria (1840-1913), Italian zoologist who collected in Persia (Iran) with de Filippi (1862-1863) and in Borneo with Beccari (1865-1866). He founded the Museo Civico di Storia Naturale, Turin (1867-1913), and was its first Director.

G. d. brevis is named after the Latin masculine adjective meaning short. Gonocephalus doriae brevis has the shortest tail of any angle-head and this trait usually distinguishes this subspecies from both G. d. abbotti and G. d. doriae.

G. d. abbotti was named after its discoverer, Dr. W. L. Abbott.
