| Diagnosis | Diagnosis: A species of Gonocephalus distinguished from all congeners by having (1) 6 or 7 loreals separating last canthal and supralabials; (2) 8 infraorbitals; (3) 58 scales around midbod; (4) distinctly enlarged suboculars contacting supralabials; (5) nasal broadly contacting 2 or 3 supralabials; (6) nuchal and dorsal crests separated by pectoral gap spanning 13 scales; (8) gulars crest of 11 projecting triangular scales, total gular scales 39 from mental or chinshields to point where gular pouch attaches to chest; (9) rostral single, 2.7 times as wide as tall; (10) 1 very large tubercular scale ventral to tympanum, lateral to posterior end of mandible; (11) scales on lower flanks heterogenous, large scales or small patches of large scales separated from one another by much smaller scales; (12) keeling very reduced over much of body, gulars and ventrals smooth or feebly arched; (13) in life, green with bold black banding. | Etymology | The name inauris is a feminine noun in apposition, meaning earring, eardrop, or pendant in Latin. The new name calls attention to the largest scale on the holotype: the pale yellow, rounded, and domed subtympanic scale. |
