Type locality: 4 km along the Mt Gouemba road from turnoff 3 km south of La Fause Yaté Bridge, New Caledonia.

Type species: Graciliscincus shonae SADLIER 1987 is the type species of the genus Graciliscincus SADLIER 1987: 12. 
EtymologyNamed after Shona Sadlier, Ross Sadlier’s wife at the time of description. The species has been named after Latin “gracilis”, meaning small or lanky, or gracile.

The name Graciliscincus is derived from the Latin gracilis and scincus.
