DistributionUSA (Georgia, Alabama, [Yellow river], SE Louisiana, Mississippi [Pearl River system], Tennessee, Florida Panhandle)

Type locality: “Montgomery, Ala.” [Montgomery Co., Alabama].  
Reproductionoviparous. Exhibits temperature‐dependent sex determination (TSD) fide Cornejo-Páramo et al. 2020 (and references therein). 
TypesLectotype: USNM 8808 (alcoholic subadult female, CL “176 mm”), lake near Montgomery, Montgomery County, Alabama, collected by Dr. Tarleton H. Bean and A. L. Kumlien, Jul 1876. Lectotype designation by Lovich and McCoy (1992: 304) Syntype: FMNH 22171; specimen is misidentified according to Peter Lindemann (1/2007), A. Resetar, pers. comm. 4 Feb 2019). 
Diagnosis 
CommentSynonymy: Praschag et al. 2017 found that G. ernsti, G. gibbonsi, G. pearlensis and G. pulchra are nearly identical genetically and, thus, likely conspecific.

Diet: carnivore.

Habitat: freshwater (lakes, rivers) 
EtymologyNamed after Latin “pulchra” = beautiful, handsome, fine, fair, referring to the head pattern.
