Type locality: Lebong Tandai, Res. Benkoelen, Sumatra.

TypesType: BMNH 1946.8.30.90 (and possibly additional specimens). 
Diagnosis 
CommentThaumatorhynchus has a single, cylindrical rostral horn.

Type species: Thaumatorhynchus brooksi PARKER 1924 is the type species of the genus Thaumatorhynchus PARKER 1924. Vinciguerra (1933) and Wermuth (1967) synonymised the genus Thaumatorhynchus with Harpesaurus.

Abundance: only known from the type specimen (Meiri et al. 2017).

Illustration: Manthey (2010) published the first images of a living specimen of H. brooksi. 
EtymologyNamed after Cecil Joslin Brooks (1875-1953), a collector, mainly botanical, in Borneo and Sumatra early in the 20th century. He was employed at a goldmine in Sumatra (1912-1923), traveled subsequently in the Dutch East Indies, and then sailed, via Australia and New Zealand, to Europe (1924).
