Type locality: “Tasan, 40 kilometres S.W. of Chumpon, Peninsular Siam” [= Tasan, 40 km SW Chumpon (10°30’N, 99°11’E), S Thailand].  
Reproductionoviparous 
TypesType: BMNH 1946.1.13.36-37 (and possibly additional specimens). 
DiagnosisDiagnosis: Small slender Natrix; 19 scalerows anteriorly, reducing to 17 at middle of body; scales smooth anteriorly, feebly keeled posteriorly; ventrals, 147-151; subcaudals, 120-126; supralabials, nine, the fourth, fifth, and sixth entering orbit. (Taylor 1965: 827)

Etymology“Natrix groundwateri is named after Mr. C. L. Groundwater, to whom I have been indebted on many occasions for illustrations which have appeared in this Journal” (SMITH 1922).
