Type locality: Estação Costa Pinto, Sorocabana Railway, Estado de São Paulo, Brazil.

DiagnosisDiagnosis: Helicops gomesi is distinguished from all its congeners except H. angulatus by having subcaudal keels, no intergenials, and 19 dorsal scale rows throughout its body. From H. angulatus it differs in having 125–132 ventrals in males and 128–132 in females (for information on references see Suppl. material 3) (Schöneberg & Köhler 2021).
