Syntype: NMW 17661; “homotype”: INHRCM 368 [bornmuelleri] 
DiagnosisDiagnosis: Tail without sharp, denticulated lateral edge; numerous enlarged, strongly keeled dorsal tubercles arranged in 14-16 more or less regular longitudinal series; 12-14 lamellae and pairs of lamellae under basal expanded portion of fourth toe; 10-12 supralabials and 8-10 infralabials; males with 9-13 preanal pores (Anderson 1999: 173). 
CommentDistribution: See map in SMID et al. 2014 for distribution in Iran and map in Burriel-Carranza et al. 2019 for map in UAE.

Synonymy: Afrasiab & Al-Moussawi re-described (and revalidated) Hemidactylus bornmuelleri but strangely listed it as “sp. n.”; apparently they did not examine the original type in NMW but designated a “homotype”. The validity of the revalidation remains a bit unclear due to lack of details. 
EtymologyNamed after its distribution in Persia (now: Iran).
