CommentSubspecies: Coluber hippocrepis nigrescens has not been generally accepted and was considered as a variant of the nominate species (e.g. Schätti in Böhme et al. 1993: 124).

Type species: Coluber hippocrepis LINNAEUS 1758 is the type species of the genus Hemorrhois BOIE 1826.
