DistributionSolomon Islands (Rennell)

Type locality: Lake Te-Nggano on Rennell Island  
TypesHolotype: CAS 72001
Holotype: ZMUC 6608 [wolfi] 
DiagnosisDiagnosis: Ventrals 192 – 210. Subcaudals 24 – 39 pairs (males) and 24 – 30 pairs (females). 19 – 21 scale rows on the neck and body. Number of body vertebrae 203 – 219, number of tail vertebrae 30 – 46. Snout-vent length 615 (males) and 795 mm (females). Tail length 91 (males) and 90 mm (females). 

One of the 2 sea snakes that has been recorded solely from fresh water (the other one being Hydrophis semperi).

Habitat: freshwater; this is one of a few “sea snakes” that appear to live exclusively in fresh water. Others are Hydrophis sibauensis and H. semperi.

EtymologyNamed after Charles Templeton Crocker (1885-1948), a member of a California family that made its money from railways, having invested in the first transcontinental American railroad. He sailed for several expeditions to the South Pacific.
