CommentIllustrations: Schmidt, 1921 (as L. eremitus); Cochran, 1941.
EtymologyNamed after Greel melanos (μέλανος) = black, and Greek chloros (χλωρός) = green, greenish yellow, after the green and black dorsal bands.

L. melanochlorus hypsistus was named after the Greek υψίστους (= high or higher), which appears to be an allusion to the higher elevational range of this subspecies.
