Diagnosis.—A large member of the genus Leptodeira as defined by Duellman (1958a) with a maximum SVL of 542mm. Differs from L. punctata, nigrofasciata, bakeri, splendida ephippiata, annulata annulata, annulata ashmeadi, annulata pulchriceps, and septentrionalis ornata by the presence of more than 19 scale rows at midbody. Leptodeira uribei differs from the rest of the members of the genus (except L. frenata) by the presence of a dark postorbital stripe, usually in contact with the first body blotch. Furthermore, L. uribei differs from L. frenata by having 21 dorsal scale rows at the neck (vs. 19) and by a higher number of ventrals in males (188–200 vs. 170– 186). These two species can also be distinguished by differences in coloration, especially head coloration (dark brown or black head with a white, light cream, or red area bordering the parietal scales and stretching 6–10 scales into the neck vs. brown or light brown head, with a light stripe usually not in contact with parietals). Leptodeira uribei has more body blotches (35–44) than L. f. frenata and L. f. yucatanensis (26–34 and 18–26, respectively). The blotches usually reach the first scale row in frenata and yucatanensis but only reach the second and third scale rows in L. uribei. Leptodeira f. malleisi differs from L. uribei by the size of the light interspaces (1–3 vs. 0.5–1) and the size of the dark intercalary spots (covering 4–6 scales in uribei vs. 1–4 in malleisi) [from REYES-VELASCO & MULCAHY 2010].
