Type locality: Pretoria, South Africa.  
Reproductionoviparous 
TypesHolotype: BMNH 1946.1.10.82. 
DiagnosisDiagnosis: a species with the prefrontal fused with the rostral, forming a very large shield which is about two thirds width of head at level of eyes; anterior supralabial present. Occipitals usually divided. Tail with 12 rows of scales, terminating abruptly in a terminal spine. Colouration uniform black above and below.
