Holotype: CBF 1293 (Mus. Nac. Hist. Nat. La Paz, Coll. Boliv. Faun.) [erguetae]
DiagnosisDiagnosis (molinai): Within the montanus group, the new species differs from the boulengeri group in lacking a patch of enlarged scales on the posterior thigh. It differs from the remaining species of the montanus group in having a high number of small, smooth, rounded dorsal body scale and differentiated head scales. From those species with similar pattern of squamation, the new species can be differentiated by its moderate size, tail shorter than snout - vent length, and distinctive color pattern.

CommentStatus unclear. Known from a single specimen which is in very bad condition, hence its validity remains unclear (D. Pincheira-Donoso, pers. comm., 23 May 2017). Not listed as valid member of Chilean Liolaemus by Demangel 2016.

Distribution: see map in Langstroth 2021: 124 (Fig. 6).

Habitat: It has psammophilus habits and it occurs over 4,000 m of elevation.

Synonymy: PINCHEIRA-DONOSO & NÚÑEZ 2005 and PINCHEIRA-DONOSO et al. 2008 considered L. molinai as a synonym of L. schmidti, a decision that is rejected by LOBO et al. 2010. Langstroth-Plotkin 2021 synonymized L. molinai and L. erguetae with L. erroneus. L. erroneus has been considered as a synonym of Liolaemus andinus by some authors (see www.mma.gob.cl).

Etymology: L. molinai was named after the first Chilean naturalist, Abate Juan Ignacio Molina, who wrote the first and one of the most important natural science works in Chile. This work has been recognized and valued to this day, despite errors in the identification of some species.

Etymology: L. erguetae was named after Patricia Ergueta S.
