Type locality: Argentina, Santa Cruz, Lago Buenos Aires.

TypesHolotype: MLP S (Mus. La Plata = MLP) No. 571. 
DiagnosisDiagnosis: “Especie de tamaño mediano, robusta, con extremidades posteriores cortas, reconocible de los otros Liolaemus del grupo bibroni por su característica le- pidosis y coloración.” [from CEI 1984]. 
CommentDistribution: apparently known form Argentina only by museum material, but never found in the wild (Avila et al. 2013: 228).

Abundance: only known from its original description (Meiri et al. 2017). 
EtymologyNamed after the travelers of the Francisco Moreno Expedition, who were the first to explore Lake Buenos Aires, after Latin explorator = searcher, examiner.
