Comment | Synonymy: PINCHEIRA-DONOSO & NÚÑEZ 2005 and PINCHEIRA-DONOSO et al. 2008 considered L. schmidti as a synonym of L. andinus, a decision that is rejected by LOBO et al. 2010. More recently, PINCHEIRA-DONOSO agreed that schmidti is a valid species (pers. comm., 23 May 2017). PINCHEIRA-DONOSO & NUNEZ (2003) synonymized L. islugensis with L. pantherinus. Langstroth 2021 synonymized islugensis with L. schmidti. Subspecies: Liolaemus islugensis erguetae LAURENT 1995 has been elevated to species status. Distribution: not listed for Chile by Demangel 2016, apparently because he considered it as a synonym of something else. See map in Langstroth 2021: 124 (Fig. 6). NCBI taxonID: 2316808 [islugensis] RDB species ID: 20949 [islugensis] Etymology: L. islugensis was named after Volcán Isluga, where this species is found. |
Etymology | Named after Karl Patterson Schmidt (1890-1957), American herpetologist who died from a Boomslang bite (Dispholidus typus; see Davis 1957 and RESETAR & VORIS 1997 for biographical notes). |
