Etymology | Named after the Latin “umbra” = shade and the Latin suffix “-ifer” (from the verb fero) = to carry or bear. The name “shade bearer” refers to the distinctly black upper arms and shoulders of this species. Belongs to the Liolaemus elongatus group (fide ESPINOZA et al. 2000).
