Diagnosis 
CommentAbundance: only known from its original description (Meiri et al. 2017). 
EtymologyNamed after the dark or black color of the head in this species. Original etymology: “El nombre específico melaniceps hace referencia al colorido negro que recubre únicamente la cabeza, como una capucha.” (PINCHEIRA-DONOSO & NÚÑEZ 2005)
