Type locality: Forty miles east of San Pedro de Atacama, Antofagasta, Chile.  
Reproductionviviparous (not imputed, fide Zimin et al. 2022) 
TypesHolotype: FMNH 5759. 
Diagnosis 
CommentPINCHEIRA-DONOSO & NÚÑEZ 2005 and PINCHEIRA-DONOSO et al. 2008 considered L. schmidti as a synonym of L. andinus, a decision that is rejected by LOBO et al. 2010. More recently, PINCHEIRA-DONOSO agreed that schmidti is a valid species (pers. comm., 23 May 2017).

Distribution: not listed for Chile by Demangel 2016, apparently because he considered it as a synonym of something else. See map in Langstroth 2021: 124 (Fig. 6). 
EtymologyNamed after Karl Patterson Schmidt (1890-1957), American herpetologist (see Davis 1957 and RESETAR & VORIS 1997 for biographical notes).
