Type locality: "7 km au nord de la petite ville de Befandriana-sud, 2 km, à l'est de la route nationale no 9, Tuléar-Morombe, de la région malgache," [=Toliara Province, southwestern Madagascar].

EtymologyNamed after Reverend Dr. Otto Appert (1930-2012), a Swiss missionary and amateur naturalist in Madagascar.
