Comment | Nomenclature: The name Scopelophis has been suppressed by the ICZN in 1996 (Bulletin of Zoological Nomenclature 53 (3): 226-227). Type species: Psammophis seychellensis SCHLEGEL 1837 is the type species of the genus Lycognathophis BOULENGER 1893. Phylogenetics: for a phylogenetic analysis of Sub-saharan Natricine genera see Deepak et al. 2021. The closest relatives of the genus are a clade of African Natricinae, which is why we add them to this subfamily but it is possible to assign it to its own subfamily. |
Etymology | Named after the type locality. |
